Board Profiles
Under Bill 7 - 2006 (The North Island-Coast Development Initiative Trust Act) - the Board of Directors is to consist of 13 individuals - eight local government officials appointed by the regional advisory committees for a two-year term and five members-at-large appointed by the Provincial government for a three-year term.
The following directors were appointed by the regional advisory committees for a two year term beginning July 14, 2008:
Mayor Jack Peake, Lake Cowichan - Board Chair
Mayor Barry Janyk, Gibsons - Board Vice-Chair
Mayor Gerry Furney, Port McNeill
Mayor Roger McDonell, Campbell River
Mayor Ken McRae, Port Alberni
Mayor Sandy Herle, Parksville
Mayor Gary Korpan, Nanaimo
Mayor Phil Kent, Duncan
The following directors were appointed by the Provincial government and will serve until August 2009:
Bob Bennie - Recently retired after a lengthy career with financial institutions, including having served the last 15 years as the president and CEO of the Coastal Community Credit Union. Mr. Bennie is also currently a member of the board of directors of the Nanaimo Port Authority.
Dave Formosa of currrently serves as President of the Powell River Chamber of Commerce. He is also active with a number of community groups and serves as a director on the boards of the Powell River Hospital Foundation and the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society.
Dave Mannix is currently the Forestry Manager for Economic Development for the Snuneymuxw First Nation. He has spent much of this life living and working in forestry both on and off the reserve, having run his own forestry company for the last 18 years. Mr. Mannix has been an active member of the Volunteer Fire, Ambulance Search and Rescue in Sooke for nine years and has also served as the Chair of the National Aboriginal Forestry Association in Canada and as the Director for the Aboriginal Forest Industries Council of B.C.
Dallas Smith of the Tlowitsis Nation is also co-chair of the Ecosystem-Based Management Council of British Columbia's Central and North Coast. Currently a lead negotiator for 14 nations on several co-management agreements with the Province of British Columbia. Mr. Smith sat on the Coast Information Team Management Committee which was tasked with the development of the definition of Ecosystem Based Management (EBM).
Camela Tang is the chair of the Arts, Culture and Entertainment sub-committee of the Downtown Nanaimo Partnership, a member of the Nanaimo Art Gallery and recipient of the Positive Image Award from the Economic Development Group of Nanaimo.
