Parksville, BC

The City of Parksville (Population: 12,500 - Region 44,000) is a destination of choice for both business and pleasure. Located 150 kilometers (94 miles) north of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, this Vancouver Island seaside town has it all.

Renowned for its endless sandy beaches and warm water, Parksville is also a recreational hub for activities including golfing, hiking, biking and beach combing. Charming rural stores, farm stands and breathtaking mountain, ocean and forest views make Parksville unforgettable.

While Parksville is a prime retirement and tourism destination, many other sectors are on the rise and contributing to the success of the local economy. Once reliant on resource-based industries of forestry and fishing, Parksville now boasts real growth in retail, wholesale trade and construction.

One of the largest institutional developments in recent years is the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre, which also houses a satellite campus of Malaspina University-College. The Centre is a focal point for civic, community and educational uses and the main campus is within 30 minutes of Parksville.

When it comes to Vancouver Island resort development, Parksville leads the way. By 2009, five significant projects would see 678 rooms added to the current mix of 1200 accommodation units. This will revival large centres in the Okanagan. Spas, conference centres, childrens programs, entertainment venues and more are all part of the success of this Oceanside industry.

With a trade area of approximately 44,000 people and over 60,000 tourists annually there is a tremendous potential for economic growth. Opportunities exist for a wide variety of market conditions to service local residents and tourists. In retail trade, items such as groceries, shoes, clothing, home décor and furnishings, recreation, sport and gift items are required.

A Downtown Revitalization strategy is underway and will include new retail and residential development opportunities adjacent to the community park and beachfront.

Parksville Industrial Park is home to small manufacturers, self-storage, wholesale and retail businesses relating to home and farm needs. Automotive, transportation and some forestry related companies are also located here. Space is available to accommodate additional industry as the area grows.
