Ladysmith, BC

Nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island, the Town of Ladysmith features all of the warmth and charm of small town living with a full range of services and amenities. A 2003 National Communities in Bloom award winner, Ladysmith is one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia. The Town has seen a 33% increase in population since 1990, with its largest growth occurring in the early 1990s when growth averaged nearly 5% a year.

A corresponding increase in the local business community has also occurred. The Town of Ladysmith issued 92% more business licenses in 2005 than it did in 2000. With an expanding number of industrial companies, Ladysmith is also a great centre for medium and small businesses. The largest economic sectors in the community are marine, forestry, aquaculture, services, retail and technology. In addition, Ladysmith has an emerging tourism industry and is a popular location for the filming.

Areas for development include the planned mixed-use waterfront as well as commercial centres of the heritage downtown core and the highway frontage further south. Industrial development is, in contrast, designated in two main areas of Town; one located on the waterfront, and at the very southern tip of town - all of which is easily accessible to transportation networks and services.
